MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide with the molecular formula C101H152N28O22S2 and a molecular weight of 2,174.6 g/mol (CAS 1627580-64-6). First described in 2015, MOTS-c is unusual because it is encoded by mitochondrial DNA rather than nuclear DNA. It belongs to a class called mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) — short peptides encoded within the mitochondrial genome. Its sequence (MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR) is found within the 12S rRNA gene of mitochondrial DNA, a region not previously known to produce peptides. MOTS-c is supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder, soluble in water, and should be stored refrigerated at 2-8 degrees C. This product is strictly for research purposes only.
